Snow has little effect on schools

All buildings in the Edmonds School District opened on time Wednesday even though snow continued to fall throughout the morning.

Brier Elementary and Brier Terrace Middle School experienced power outages early in the day, said district spokesperson Debbie Jakala, but they continued on a normal schedule “to the best of their ability.” Hot lunches were planned to be delivered as they were unable to provide them at the school site.

Some school buses also ran late due to slippery streets in areas.

Edmonds-Woodway High School junior Alex Thomas recently was invited to travel to New York City for the week of Thanksgiving to participate in Mike Miller’s Universal Cheerleader and Dance Association performance at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Thomas is one of ten students from Washington state who was invited to attend the event. She has been a member of the Edmonds-Woodway drill team for two years.

Parenting classes offered at EdCC

Edmonds Community College will host infant and toddler parenting classes beginning in January at the new Center for Families on campus. The classes offer an opportunity for parents and their young children to interact together in a safe environment and participate in age-appropriate educational games, share successes with other parents and learn what typical behaviors are for young children and how to set realistic expectations. The classes, led by a parenting instructor and teacher, include 10 two-hour sessions and cost $96.
