SCC starts speaker series this month

Shoreline Community College will kick off their Leaders in the Classroom speaker series with ‘Enforcement &Public Safety in the New Millennium,’ presented by King County Sheriff Dave Reichert at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 14th in the college’s campus theater, 16101 Greenwood Avenue North. Reichert will address 21st century law enforcement, what the new millennium’s public safety issues are and whether homeland security is important to us in the northwest. The presentation is free and will be in the college’s Campus Theater.

‘Calling for Kids’ event scheduled

The Shoreline Public School Foundation is scheduled to have their tenth-annual “Calling for Kids” phonathon Nov. 2 Teachers, parents, community volunteers and high school students are invited to help call families to ask for pledges to reach the campaign goal of $50,000. More than 90 percent of the money from the event will go to students in Shoreline and Lake Forest Park as Fall Classroom Grants.

Shoreline kid’s celebration

The Second Annual Shoreline and North King County Children’s Day celebration is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11 at Lake Forest Park Town Center’s Third Place Commons, located at 17171 Bothell Way NE.

Events include:

• 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Resource Fair

• 10 to 10:30 a.m. Russian cultural dancers

• 10:45 to 11:30 a.m. Doug Flemming, story teller and musician

• 11:30 to 12:30 p.m. Jacquie Bresadola, interactive art project

• 12:30 to 1:10 p.m. Pacific Science Center demonstration “Sensational”

• 1:30 to 2:00 p.m. Act One Dance

• 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. cookie decorating

• 2:00 to 2:30 p.m. Puppeteer

Annual Halloween carnival, auction

Shoreline Co-Operative preschool will host their annual Halloween carnival and silent auction from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18 at 2545 NE 200th in Shoreline. Children ages one to eight-years-old can participate in activities include pony rides, bouncy castle and other games. Admission is $2 per family or $1 with a can of food for Northwest Harvest. Game tickets are four for $1.

Concert to benefit TeenHope

A concert benefiting Teen Hope, a non-profit organization that provided emergency overnight shelters for teens in King County, is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 18 and the Public Facilities District (previously known as Puget Sound Christian College), located at 411- 4th Avenue North in Edmonds. International recording artist, guitarist, and singer Enrique Henao will perform at the event. Admission to the concert is $20, is tax deductible and all proceeds benefit Teen Hope. Tickets can be purchased with a credit card by calling Teen Hope at 206- 542-2746 or at the following locations:
