Election day snack sale goes to library

Briarcrest Elementary School’s first and second graders from Rooms 32 and 33 are having a lemonade and snack stand to raise money for their library from 9:00 a.m.-2:30 p.m. on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 4 at the school.

Further donations for the library can be made in two ways: by dropping off a cash donation at the school or dedicating a new hard-cover book at the lemonade stand.

Donate soup labels, local cause

The T-bird Crew, a community-based program at Shorewood High School for students with severe/profound disabilities, is currently collecting Campbell’s soup labels in order to buy a van for student transportation. Swanson’s, V-8, Franco-American and Prego labels should also be saved to help the program. A total of 1,500,000 labels are needed.

Jeff Lewis named an SCC Trustee

Governor Gary Locke recently appointed Jeffrey P. Lewis as the newest member of Shoreline Community College’s Board of Trustees. Lewis replaces Kevin Grossman, who retired from the board after five years of service.

Lewis was a board member of the Shoreline Community College Foundation for more than 10 years and is president of Shoreline Bank.

Shoreline Community College also officially appointed Samira Pardanini as International Admissions/Immigration Manager.

‘Calling for Kids’ event scheduled

The Shoreline Public School Foundation is scheduled to have its 10th annual “Calling for Kids” phonathon Nov. 2 Teachers, parents, community volunteers and high school students are invited to help call families to ask for pledges to reach the campaign goal of $50,000. More than 90 percent of the money from the event will go to students in Shoreline and Lake Forest Park as Fall Classroom Grants.

SCC kicks off new lecture series

King County Sheriff Dave Reichert led a talk concerning “Enforcement &Public Safety in the New Millennium,” on Oct. 14 at Shoreline CC.

Reichert talked about having always wanting to be a public servant and always wanting to help people. He gave a personalized synopsis of his 30-year law enforcement career, sharing a couple of close calls he encountered.

Reichert also shared how technology has been a positive influence in criminal justice. Students had the opportunity to ask direct questions at a question and answer period at the conclusion of his presentation.
