Girls and guys night at YMCA

The Shoreline YMCA is offering both a girls and guys night for students in sixth through ninth grade.

Participants in both programs will have the opportunity to be active in small group discussions, develop leadership skills, mentor peers and participate in various projects and field trips. Both programs are free.

The girls group meets from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. every other Wednesday evening at the community center. The first meeting is scheduled for Sept. 17.

The guys group meets from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday evenings at the community center. The first meeting is scheduled for Sept. 25.

S’wood grad makes Dean’s List

Nicolette D. Dresback, a graduate of Shorewood High School and current student at Azusa Pacific University in Azusa, Calif., recently was honored for earning a 3.5 grade point average during the 2003 spring semester and was placed on the academic Dean’s List. Dresback is currently a communications studies major.

‘Joining Night’ for Cub Scout Pk 325

Richmond Beach’s Cub Scout Pack 325 will have a “Joining Night” for boys age 6 through 11 at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 25 at First Lutheran Church of Richmond Beach, 18354 8th Ave., NW.

WASL results available online

The results of the WASL test taken by students last spring are available online at www.everett.k12.wa.us /new/. Searches can be done by district, by individual schools and by demographic groups of students.

First day of college coming

Shoreline Community College’s fall quarter begins Monday, Sept. 22. This year marks the college’s 40th year of operation. For more information or to see the fall class schedule, go to www.shoreline.edu.

The Works offers free school clothes

The Works, operated by the Shoreline School District’s PTA Council, is offering “gently used” clothing at no cost to Shoreline students ages preschool through high school.

New underwear, socks and personal hygiene products also are available. Reduced-cost eyeglasses also may be available through school nurses or family advocates, officials added.

The Works is open from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. every Wednesday, following the Shoreline school schedule, and is located at 2800 NE 200th St. at Aldercrest School.

School board candidate forum

Positive Shoreline Solutions will host a Shoreline School Board Candidate Forum from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 15 at Bethel Lutheran Church, 17418 8th Ave. NE in Shoreline.

The moderator for the event will be the new president of The League of Women Voters, Nancy Eitreim, who is also a co-sponsor of the event.

Discussion on new SCC building

Students, staff and community members are invited to attend one of several meetings scheduled to discuss Shoreline Community College’s future plans to build a new Allied Health and Science Building. Architects from NBBJ, the firm chosen to work on the design of the building, and campus officials will be at the meeting to answer questions. The forum is designed to gain input from the college community, and suggestions will be considered during the planning process.

Scheduled meeting dates:

• 1:30 – 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 19 in the PUB Canteen room. This meeting is a continuation of the previous meeting on Aug. 5. Ideas from the previous meeting also will be confirmed.

• 1:30 – 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 14 in the PUB Canteen room. This meeting will focus on the evaluation of the physical concepts of the building and discuss the “preferred alternative” plan.
