Public can give input on math at state meeting
The State Board of Education will hold a community meeting from 4-7 p.m. July 24 to get input on state math standards. The meeting will be at the Puget Sound Educational Service District in Renton, 800 Oakesdale Ave. SW.
The state is in the process of revising its math standards for kindergarten through 12th grade, and comments are sought on a draft report done by an educational research firm on the standards. The community meeting will provide input for the math standards final report due at the end of August.
The public can comment on the draft recommendation by sending e-mail to sbe@k12.wa.us by Aug. 5.
A draft report of findings will be presented at the meeting. Then there will be a question and answer period, small group discussions, and time to report feedback. Individuals will be asked to provide written comments on the draft recommendations. A copy of the Strategic Teaching report is at www.sbe.wa.gov. For information see www.sbe.wa.gov.
