SCC artists gallery highlights students
Shoreline Community College’s Gallery is currently hosting a student exhibition including award-winning paintings, photographs and ceramic sculptures. The exhibition will continue through Aug. 6.
For the first time this year, students were awarded prizes for their artwork displayed in the gallery.
First place went to Mark Chang for his peach vase, “Untitled.” Second place went to Lisa Hickey for her color photograph of a duck making ripples in the water, titled “Rainier Duck.” Two third place awards were given including one to Amanda Brown for a collage named “School of Fish” and one to Kelley Tivan for “Silverware Study #21,” a large drawing of silverware in a tray.

The Works offers free school clothes
The Works, operated by the Shoreline School District’s PTA Council, is offering “gently used” clothing at no cost to Shoreline students ages preschool through high school. New underwear, socks and personal hygiene products also are available.
Reduced-cost eyeglasses also may be available through school nurses or family advocates, officials added.
The Works is open from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. every Wednesday, following the Shoreline school schedule, and is located at 2800 NE 200th St. at Aldercrest School.
SCC salon offers summer specials
The Shoreline Community College Salon is offering summer specials 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays and from noon to 8 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays. Haircuts are half price every Monday, scalp treatments and blow dry styling are free with a facial, and permanent waves including a haircut and styling are $20 on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Hair color and cap frosts are 20 percent off all summer. These prices are good through Sept. 11.

S’crest student orientation set
Shorecrest High School is scheduled to host a new student kick-off event at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 27 in its gym.
The event is geared towards introducing new students and their parents to the school. Those who attend can ask questions about the school’s academic program, tour the campus and meet with teachers, counselors, coaches, advisors and administrators. Performances by various Shorecrest groups will take place during the event.

Public forum for new SCC building set
Students, staff and community members are invited to attend one of several meetings scheduled to discuss Shoreline Community College’s future plans to build a new Allied Health and Science Building.
Architects from NBBJ, the firm chosen to work on the design of the building, and campus officials will be at the meeting to answer questions. The forum is designed to gain input from the college community, and suggestions will be considered during the planning process.
Scheduled meeting dates:
• 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 5 in the PUB Canteen room.
• 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 19 in the PUB Canteen room. This is a continuation of the Aug. 5 meeting.
• 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 14 in the PUB Canteen room. This meeting will focus on the evaluation of the physical concepts of the building and discuss the “preferred alternative” plan.
