Clothes for Kids is now open

Students in the Edmonds School District and those referred through Mariner High School who qualify for free or reduced-price meals can now shop for back-to-school clothes at Clothes for Kids. The program will be open for referred students in the Head Start and ECEAP programs beginning Oct. 6, and to non school-age siblings beginning Nov. 3.

The non-profit organization will be open 9 to 11:30 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, and is located at 16725 52nd Ave. W. in Lynnwood.

Clothes for Kids is also seeking volunteers willing to help weekday mornings and some evenings. For more information, call Clothes for Kids at 425-670-7285.

Back-to-school fair for parents, kids

Staff at the Edmonds School District will host a back-to-school community resource fair from 1:30 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19 at Cedar Valley Community School, 19200 56th Ave. W, Lynnwood. Students and parents from all school districts are invited.

The event will include 50 free haircuts for students provided by 33rd Sunset Snip, Soma Salon, and A Styling Studio on 173rd. Haircuts will be given on a first come, first served basis. The Snohomish Health District also will provide an on-site immunization clinic; parents need to bring their child’s shot record to participate. Enrollment for the district’s Headstart program, school registration information, information about free school clothing, vision and hearing screening, Department of Social and Health Services, school lunch programs, and various local social services also will be available at the fair. Help name EdCC’s ice cream flavor

Snoqualmie Gourmet Ice Cream, Inc. in Lynnwood and Edmonds Community College culinary arts students are creating a special flavor of ice cream to be served at the grand opening celebration of Edmonds Community College’s Center for Families event from 3 to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 16 at the college, 20000 68th Ave. W.

Students, staff and community members are currently being invited to take part in a naming contest for the new flavor. Suggestions made so far include “Every Chip of the Way,” (a take off on the college’s motto to guide students, “Every Step of the Way”) “Sweet Dreams and Sticky Fingers,” “World Swirl,” “Playground Gravel” “Bella Familia” (Spanish for beautiful family) or “A Family Favorite.” To vote, go to http://families.edcc.edu. Registration open for EdCC childcare

Registration for childcare at Edmonds Community College’s Center for Families is now open.

Beginning Sept. 17, the center will offer childcare for infants, toddlers, preschoolers and school age children up to age 11. Prices for childcare at the Center range from $2.75-$5.50 an hour (with a two-hour minimum) for Edmonds Community College students. Rates are slightly higher for Central Washington University-Lynnwood students or college staff. Hours for babies and toddlers are 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., preschoolers 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. and school age 2:30-9:30 p.m. A $25 registration fee per quarter for childcare includes Family Life Education Credit.
