Create a bug in summer school

Registration for the Shoreline School District Summer School program is now open.

Students can gain skills in all academic areas in classes such as “Create a Bug,” “Learn to Cook,” and Spanish, computer and reading classes.

Secondary students can recover credits and make up missing graduation requirements. ESL and on-line learning programs also are available.

Classes will be held for grades 1 through 12 from June 26 to July 23. To register or for more information, contact the Summer School office at 206-361-4407.

New Shoreline staff named

The Shoreline School Board recently named several new principals within the district. Those include: James C. Conley Jr. as assistant principal for Shorewood High School. Conley has served as interim assistant principal for Einstein Middle School since October of 2002.

Lori A. Henry has been named as assistant principal for Shorecrest High School. Henry has worked in the district since 1999, with experience as an administrative intern and physical education/ health teacher at Einstein Middle School, Shorecrest and Shorewood high schools and Summer School.

Jennifer L. Parks has been named as assistant principal for Einstein Middle School. Parks is currently an administrative intern and 7th and 8th grade math teacher at Kellogg Middle School, a position she has been in since 1996.

S’crest senior wins peace scholarship

Shorecrest senior Zoe O’Neill was recently awarded The Floyd Schmoe Peace Scholarship for $1,000. The award annually highlights a Shorecrest High School graduating senior who “shows exceptional humanitarian qualities toward others in the pursuit and interest of world peace.”

O’Neill plans to attend Western Washington University in the Fall.

 

S’crest junior receives award

Shorecrest High School junior Dustin G. Cho was recently awarded a $2,500 Discover Card Tribute Award Scholarship.

Cho was chosen as one of nine Washington state juniors to receive the award from almost 9,000 applicants. The scholarship may be used towards training, trade or technical programs, an associates degree or a four year degree at a college or university.

Students who qualify for the award must maintain a minimum 2.75 GPA and must demonstrate accomplishments in three of four areas, including special talents, leadership, obstacles overcome and community service, officials said.

Cho and other scholarship winners will be honored in June at a ceremony in Riverwoods, Illinois, and will go on to compete for a $25,000 scholarship.

Play golf to raise money for schools

The Shoreline Foundation will host a golf tournament at 10 a.m. June 2 at the Snoqualmie Ridge Golf Club. The cost to play in the tournament is $250 and includes 18 holes of golf, continental breakfast, box lunch, dinner, complimentary drinks and prizes. All proceeds go to the Shoreline School District.

Honor events for Shoreline staff

The Shoreline School District will host several community events from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 4 in the Shoreline Room at the Shoreline Center, 18560 1st Avenue NE, Shoreline. Events include the Retirement Tea to honor retirees Marilyn Brown, Tamia Duggan, Linda Eguchi, Josie Mearns and Sheila Theodoratos, and will honor the 2003 Support Person of the Year, Jan Davis and the 2003 Teacher of the Year, Carmela Dellino.
