Shorecrest gets medieval in Feb.

Shorecrest High School will be holding a Medieval Banquet from 7 to 10 p.m. on Feb. 7th. Tickets are $12 and can be ordered by calling 206-367-2516. The banquet will include traditional medieval entertainment including piping, highland dancing and other forms of Celtic music and dance, and participants will be served a four course meal.

S’wood students create music

The following students from the Shorewood High School music department have been accepted into the All-Northwest Honor Groups (comprised of the top students from Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana and Wyoming): Jeehah Yu (trumpet, Jazz Band), Sam Reid (saxophone (alternate), Jazz Band), Anna Lindvall (trombone, Orchestra), Kathleen Hansen (soprano, Mixed Choir), Christine Terreson (soprano, Mixed Choir), John Teske (string bass, Orchestra), Hilary Zetlen (viola, Orchestra), and Joh Schindler (violin, Orchestra). The students will be performing in concert in conjunction with the Music Educators Northwest Conference in Portland, Oregon, held during February 2003.

In addition to the All-Northwest music honor groups (in odd-numbered years), there are also annual All-State music groups named. These following Shorewood students have attained the status of All-state in the following groups: Michael Andrade (bass – choir), Jason Byers (tenor – Choir), Jared Maddox (tenor – Choir), Candace Ryu (bassoon – Band), Irene Yang (flute – Band), Micky Hansen (oboe – Orchestra), Ashley Bell (viola – Orchestra), Lena Buell (string bass – Orchestra), Julia King (viola – Orchestra), Michael Korpi (violin – Orchestra), Sarah Montange (harp – Orchestra), Phillip Ng (violin – Orchestra), Tabitha Wang (violin – Orchestra). These students will be performing as part of ArtsTime, in a concert at U.P.S. in March 2003.

Evergreen School has an open house

The Evergreen School, which serves students in preschool through eighth grade, is hosting its annual Open House from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, January 12, at 15201 Meridian Ave. N., between 145th and 155th, just west of the I-5 freeway. The event is for anyone interested in enrolling their children for the 2003/04 school year.

Applications are available for all grades on line at www.evergreeenschool.org, in addition to general information about the school.

Journey info. session set

A participatory launch meeting for the Journey Program will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 16 at the Shoreline Center in the Shoreline Room, 18560 First Ave. NE, Shoreline, W.

This meeting will be open to all current 5th, 6th and 7th grade students and their families in the Shoreline School District. All families preregistered are also invited to attend.

Shorecrest offers evening seminars

Shorecrest PTSA is offering a seminar called “Financing College” that will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 14 in the Shorecrest library.

Mike Meeks, a financial consultant, will present “Funding the Future.” A $100 Savings Bond courtesy of Shoreline Savings Bank will also be given away in a drawing that evening.

The PTSA will also present “Youth Issues Today” at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 21 in the Shorecrest library. Kevin Haggerty, Lecturer and Project Director, Social Development Research Group at the UW, will be speaking on “Preventing Alcohol and Drug Abuse in Adolescence.”

S’Wood principal has time for coffee

Shorewood principal John Green will field questions from parents at a principal’s coffee at 6 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 13 in the Shorewood Library.

The PTSA meeting will follow at 7 p.m.
