Scholars and teachers to be recognized
Twelve graduating seniors in the Everett School District were recently named as finalists for the 25th Annual Superintendent’s Scholar Award. The scholars, along with their most inspirational district staff person, will be recognized at the annual Superintendent’s Scholar Awards program May 24 at the Everett Country Club. At that time, the award recipient from each school will be announced.
Student finalists and their selections for most inspirational staff are:
• Jackson High School: Nicole Lee honors teacher Jennifer Chambers, Christine Luu honors teacher Judy Baker, Lukas McKinley honors teacher Susan Wood, and Hunter Spencer honors teacher Tal Anderson.
• Cascade High School: Katherine Shepherd honors teacher Amy Crum, Catherine Manhardt honors teacher Kari Averill, Angela Null honors teacher Yvonne Gladsjo, and Chelsea Ongaro honors teacher Jim Johnson.
• Everett High School: Phillip Bui honors teacher Ann Stewart, Jasdeep Sardhu honors teacher Cynthia McIntyre, Cindy Tian honors teacher Cynthia McIntyre and Mikayla Whitley honors teacher John Bittinger.
To be considered for the award, candidates must be in the top five percent of their graduating class or have scored in the top five percent of seniors who have taken the Scholastic Aptitude Test. Counselors at each high school select four representatives from those who have applied. The students are then interviewed by a committee designated by the Everett Public Schools Foundation.
Since 1987, the Everett Public Schools Foundation has presented the Superintendent’s Scholar Awards in recognition of outstanding scholarship and inspirational teaching. The award was instituted in 1983 by Dr. Rudy Johnson, former superintendent of the Everett Public Schools.

Miller serves on student government, is president of Jackson’s Math Club, has assisted in math nights at local elementary schools, volunteered at Sarvey Wildlife Center and served on the board of the Key Club, which has been instrumental in raising monies for research relating to causes from cancer to premature births.
Miller also participates in swimming, track and field and climbing, where she both trains and instructs, including classes for the disabled.
