The staff recommendation coming out of the Edmonds School District property study includes relocating Lynnwood High School to district North Road property and leasing the current Lynnwood High land, and it also includes leasing or selling the former district headquarters land for potential use as hotel or retail development, according to a news release.
The North Road site is about one mile east of the existing campus, south of 164th Street SW, east of Larch Way, west of North Road and north of 196th Street SW in unincorporated Snohomish County.
The staff also suggests selling the former Woodway Elementary site to be used perhaps for residential development and/or a community park. District staff members are currently talking with Edmonds city officials about the potential shared use of the property for both park and development purposes.
The district estimate of potential revenue generated by these recommendations and others is $35 million. Consultants reviewed 10 district sites earlier this fall and indicated that a combination of property lease, sale and taxpayer support would be necessary to build new Lynnwood and Scriber Lake high schools.
These recommendations will be presented and discussed in a study session at 6 p.m. Dec. 7 at the Educational Services Center, 20420 68th Ave. W in Lynnwood.
In the statement, Superintendent Nick Brossoit said, “The board will still need to decide which if any of the recommendations to pursue. We want to be sensitive to taxpayers, but we still need community support to address our facility needs.”
