The study of 10 different Edmonds School District property holdings has been completed by consultants and was scheduled to be presented to the school board in executive session at its Nov. 3 meeting.
Initial review of the study indicates that a combination of property lease, sale, and taxpayer support would be necessary to build a new Lynnwood and Scriber Lake high schools and address other capital project needs.
An executive session was necessary since the actual real estate values were being discussed.
District staff now will begin working to develop a recommendation as to what steps should be taken in response to the study. These recommendations will be presented to the school board during a public study session beginning at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7.
“The recommendation will be based on information from the report and how that information can best help us address our capital project needs,” Superintendent Nick Brossoit said in a news release. “The Board will still need to decide which, if any, of the recommendations to pursue. We’re very committed to rebuilding Lynnwood and Scriber Lake high schools. We want to be sensitive to taxpayers, but we still need community support.”
The property sites and areas included in the study were: Alderwood Middle, Educational Service Center (current), Educational Service Center (former), Esperance, Lynnwood High, Maintenance/Transportation, North Road, Scriber Lake High (current), Warehouse, and former Woodway Elementary.
The study, completed by the property assessment/development firm BJSS Duarte Bryant was launched in September. The consultant’s job was to look at the 10 sites totaling nearly 143 acres and determine the range of opportunities for property use at each site and to generate contacts from developers to determine what if any interest there was in those sites.
