Two schools east of Mill Creek were locked down for more than an hour Wednesday, Dec. 15 while Snohomish County sheriff’s deputies searched for a burglar.
A homeowner reported that a man was breaking into his house about 9:55 a.m. in the 5900 block of 152nd Street SE. The suspect was gone by the time police arrived, sheriff’s spokesman deputy Rich Niebusch said.
Deputies located the suspect’s vehicle nearby by checking a 26-year-old Everett man’s license plate number and finding that the Seattle Police Department wanted him for an outstanding warrant for residential burglary.
Police dogs searched the area for about two hours. The suspect was seen jumping fences and running through back yards and wooded areas nearby, Niebusch said. The man also was spotted running between Silver Firs Elementary School and Gateway Middle School. As a precaution, the schools were locked down for more than hour during the search.
Deputies arrested the man after he fled from a hiding place. He was booked into the Snohomish County Jail.
