Help send student musicians to Vienna
The Mountlake Terrace High School Music Boosters present “A Night In Vienna,” a jazz concert fundraiser, from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Aug. 19 at the Matthews Estate winery, 16116 140th Place NE in Woodinville.
The school jazz band will perform along with guest band Fusion. There also will be food, wine, raffles and a silent auction.
Proceeds benefit music programs at the high school – specifically, a possible trip to Vienna for the jazz and chamber wind students.
“This will be an opportunity not only to travel abroad for the first time for many students, but to participate and perform with other musicians in Vienna,” said Sherrill Leppich, president of the boosters group, in an email.

New courses at EdCC
Edmonds Community College offers four new visual arts degrees this fall – graphic design, studio art, photography and architecture – which will make it easier for arts students to apply to four-year art schools.
Other new fall classes:
• “International Relations (and Zombies),” a political science course that includes reading “World War Z” by Max Brooks and the textbook, “Theories of International Politics AND ZOMBIES,” by Daniel Drezner
• “Bond … James Bond,” a history course that examines the history and politics behind the spy with a “license to kill”
• “Archaeology Lab Methods,” an anthropology course in which students process Japanese-American artifacts from a pre-World War II site in Mukilteo.

Host families needed
International students attending Shoreline Community College often live with local families as arranged by agencies such as ABODE Homestays. ABODE is looking for additional host families for students attending the college this fall.
A host provides a student with a private, furnished bedroom and three meals a day. Hosts are not required to provide transportation. A monthly stipend of $625 aids the costs of hosting a student.
