The Mill Creek City Council will host public hearings in the coming weeks on the proposed motorized scooter ordinance and the city’s six-year capital facilities program.

The hearing on the 2005-2011 capital facilities program is set for 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 28.

The program’s purpose is to plan for needed capital projects, identifying both cost and resources necessary to fund the projects. As required by the Growth Management Act, the first two years of the plan will be incorporated into the 2005-2006 budget.

The City Council will also have a public hearing on a proposed ordinance regulating motorized scooters in the city.

The hearing will take place during the Oct. 12 Council meeting, which is the same night the Council is tentatively slated to vote on the proposed regulation, city clerk Kelly Hennessey said. The Council is slated to talk further about a proposed ordinance during its Oct. 5 study session.

The proposed ordinance will set the minimum age for scooter ridership at 16, and require helmets and mufflers. It would also give police the power to confiscate a scooter if it has illegal equipment.

The Oct. 12 public hearing will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Both hearings will take place in the Council Chambers at Mill Creek City Hall, 15728 Mill Creek Blvd. Hearing dates are subject to change.
