See racing, Playland history at Shoreline Museum

The Shoreline Historical Museum and Golden Wheels Racing Pathfinders host “The History of Racing on Aurora” from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 21, a one day outdoor exhibit of historic race cars from the Playland amusement park Speedway and other local race tracks. Original midget race cars will be on display and long-time drivers will be on hand for photo opportunities. Music all day will be performed by Joey Merryfield. A hot dog stand sponsored by the Lake Stevens Lions will be available. At 3 p.m. there will be a special program featuring the grand opening of the new “Playland Laff Factory” exhibit with the historic Red Bug car and other Playland artifacts. Playland’s “Red Bug Ride,” seen in this photo provided by the museum, featured free-steering battery-powered cars that were driven on a miniature highway. It was one of the original permanent rides at the Park, which operated from 1930 to 1960.
