Mayor Dave Hutchinson has asked members of the Planning Commission and the Environmental Quality Commission to serve on a task force to review the city’s sensitive areas ordinance.

State law requires a periodic review and revision of these ordinances. The sensitive areas ordinance (SAO) contains the regulations used to protect streams, wetlands and steep slopes. The task force will make recommendations to the Planning Commission.

The sensitive areas ordinance will then be forwarded to the City Council for adoption along with the Comprehensive Plan.

Among the items the task force is examining are:

•the need to expand stream and wetland buffers,

•the use of required studies to identify wetlands,

•ways to provide more flexibility.
