Kevin Ramos highlighted Shorecrest’s day at the Western Conference South Division meet May 11, by setting a new meet record in the 100 meters at Mariner High School.
Ramos won the 100 in 10.98 seconds and also took first in the 200, winning in 22.51 seconds.
“It felt good,” Ramos said. “Strong, quick feet and everything. I liked it.”
Ramos had a busy day, also anchoring the Scots’ 400 and 1,600 relays, which took second (43.87) and fourth (3:33.56) respectively. Shorecrest finished sixth as a team with 68 points. Shorecrest began competing in the 3A District 1 meet at Edmonds Stadium May 16. The meet continues with most finals taking place today, May 18.
Shorewood’s Kelley Neubauer won the discus in a personal best throw of 155 feet, 1 inch, an improvement of four feet, to lead the Thunderbirds, who finished fourth with 77 points. Neubauer’s mark is the best in the Western Conference North and South going into the 4A District 1 meet. The district meet started May 16 after Enterprise deadlines and continues with most finals today, May 18 at Shoreline Stadium.
“I hope I can throw like I did today,” Neubauer said. “It will all come together.”
Neubauer said working extra on his throws with his dad, Shorewood throws coach Lance Neubauer, and discussing techniques and strategies at home with him have helped.
“I think it’s part of the reason I’ve been successful,” he said.
