Shoreline Community College’s 1975 women’s volleyball team was inducted into the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges Hall of Fame during a June 3 ceremony at the Bellevue Red Lion Inn.

The team category was first introduced by the NWAACC in 2000. No Shoreline teams previously received the honor.

Nomination criteria include a team’s overall win-loss record; demonstration of strong academic achievement; winning a conference championship; team’s contribution to the community; and a minimum of 10 years since the team competed.

The 1975 season marked the second year of intercollegiate athletics for women at Shoreline and the first season for head volleyball coach Mary Segle and assistant coach Carol (Garrison) Flansburg.

Shoreline’s roster was filled with walk-ons from area high schools, none of whom were on athletic scholarships.

Team members were: Mary (Daily) Hoard and Terrie (Ulrich) Aicher from Shorecrest High; Mary Eileen (Monks) Reza from Shoreline High; Michelle (Olsen) Stevens and Julie Reeves from Lynnwood High; Dawn (Miller) Gaunt, Kathy (Crossen) Campbell and Cindy (Proper) Sherman from Mountlake Terrace High; Lori Canoy and Patty Dodge from Roosevelt High; Debbie (Foster) Alanis from Lincoln High (Seattle); Sherri Goodman from Juanita High; and Jeanne (Gill) May from Eastmont High (Wenatchee).

Shoreline won all 12 of its Northwest Community College Women’s Conference matches and finished the season 21-1. The lone defeat came at the Northwest College Women’s Sports Association tournament and Shoreline still won the championship.

In the 30-year history of women’s athletics at Shoreline, only three teams have completed regular season play with undefeated records: the 1975 volleyball team, the 1976-77 basketball team and the 1979 tennis team.
