SHORELINE — Works by a select 24 Shoreline and Lake Forest Park students are advancing to this month’s statewide PTA Reflections’ music and arts competition, following an exhibition that recognized the creativity of 665 youth from throughout Shoreline School District.

Inspired by this year’s national theme, “A Different Kind of Hero,” students at all grade levels presented photography; produced film/video; designed visual arts; choreographed dance; scored music, and created poetry and other literature in age-level divisions for the annual Reflections arts program.

“It’s amazing for parents and students to see how deeply these students express themselves through all these art forms,” said Shoreline PTSA Reflections co-chair Lee Jardine.

Among the district’s nearly 10,000 students, 665 created submissions at 16 of 17 schools, according to co-chair Cheryl Shdo. Among those participants, 220 were selected as school-level finalists. More than two dozen local professionals in the arts and arts instructors screened each work, assessing creative interpretation and artistic quality.

Those works advanced to last month’s district-wide gallery exhibit at the Shoreline Center, where 24 district winners and 23 honorable mention finishers were recognized. These honorees include:
