LYNNWOOD — Hungry and thirsty visitors at Meadowdale Playfields now have fresh and healthful refreshment options at the recently reopened snack bar.

A concessionaire has been approved and is now operating at the city park. The concessionaire, which also operates in Everett’s Kasch Park, replaces a series of vending machines.

“Now there will be more healthy items in keeping with the city’s Healthy Community initiatives,” said Brian Hendricks, athletic supervisor with Lynnwood Parks and Recreation. “There will be fruit, juices, low-fat chips, along with hot dogs and pretzels.”

Vending machines have been the only food option at the park for the past two years, when the former concessionaire of 18 years retired. The city put the stand up for bid, but could not get anyone to submit a serious proposal.

“We prefer a concessionaire more than vending machines,” Hendricks said.

The stand will serve park visitors February through October. Additional dates, in November, will be set for league games and other special events.

The concessionaire will pay the city 10 percent of the gross revenue.

Meadowdale Playfields is a 27-acre park with competition-level ball fields. Located at 16700 66th Ave. W, it was built in 1981 by the cities of Lynnwood and Edmonds, the Edmonds School District and Snohomish County.
