An early winter storm dumped a few inches of snow earlier this week, closing local schools and leaving ice on the roadways.
Because the Everett School District canceled classes Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, Nov. 27-29, basketball practices for the Mill Creek Parks and Recreation Youth Basketball League were canceled, as were other city programs. The Mill Creek City Council meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 28, however, went on as scheduled.
The snow, however, didn’t deter members of the Mill Creek-based West Coast Aquatics swim team, who were practicing in the heated pool at McCollum Park on Monday, Nov. 27.
The snow, meanwhile, caused extensive problems for drivers.
Firefighters in District 1 responded to at least six weather-related crashes during the morning commute on Monday, Nov. 27. Firefighters treated people whose vehicles had rolled over on slippery overpasses. One person was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle after his vehicle slammed into a median on northbound I-405.
The icy conditions caused a Mill Creek woman to lose control of her car near 27th Drive SE and Highlands Boulevard on Monday. She drove up onto a sidewalk and struck a 7-year-old boy. The child fell back and hit his head. Paramedics examined the boy, who reportedly wasn’t seriously injured, Mill Creek police spokeswoman Robin Swanson said.
A new stom was forecast to drop upwards of three inches of snow Wednesday night, after The Enterprise went to press.
