A well-rounded holiday includes shopping, food, family and fun. Quil Ceda Village in Marysville provides all of this and more. Just west of I-5, you’ll find the convenience of holiday shopping, several family friendly eateries and a world of entertainment and fun provided by Tulalip Casino.
John McCoy, general manager of Quil Ceda Village, said the Tulalip Tribal council began its vision of economic development back in the ’50s. “The council laid the seed and kept it in the forefront of thoughts,” he said.
The groundwork for such a huge project took time and careful consideration. “We had a lot of homework. We attended economic conferences, mall conferences, every kind of conference you can think of,” McCoy said.
One look at Quil Ceda Village, and you know the homework paid off.
Wal-Mart and Home Depot, two of the first businesses to enter Quil Ceda Village, provide ample shopping possibilities. The same can be said for the neighborhood shopping center across from Wal-Mart. The neighborhood center houses food venues and specialty shops such as Hoity Toity and Jorgensen Golf.
Hoity Toity has fast become a favorite stop, offering a fun and fabulous collection of jewelry and accessories. Owner Jana Franklin also sells unique home décor, colorful gifts and cocktail gift sets. A themed gift tree displays Franklin’s collection of unique martini glasses, and the miniature glass bottles of cosmopolitan, pomegranate or peach bellini can be mixed with champagne for a delicious toast on New Year’s Eve.
Jorgensen Golf, known for its weekly tournaments at regional golf courses, has a large selection of clubs and accessories for golf enthusiasts. Services include custom fitting, club repair and video golf lessons.
The indoor video golf lessons include a look at your swing in freeze-frame motion and normal speed, with a take-home DVD included. A private 45-minute lesson is $70. A grouping of lessons can be purchased at discounted rates, with semi-private lessons also available.
A short drive north will take you to additional components of Quil Ceda Village, including Seattle Premium Outlets and the Tulalip Casino.
Seattle Premium Outlets is a boon for local shoppers. With more than 100 outlet stores such as Adidas, Ann Taylor, Calvin Klein and Restoration Hardware, the shopping center can easily take care of your gift-giving needs.
The convenience of outlet shopping is reflected in the group’s VIP Shopper Club, group shopping benefits and seasonal sale weekends.
To further enhance your shopping experience, the outlet center provides a holiday music series through Dec. 23. From 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, and 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, you can enjoy the sounds of the season with a variety of local musicians performing in the Food Court courtyard.
According to Michele Persinger, assistant general manager of Seattle Premium Outlets, “The performances are all local students from high schools in Snohomish County.”
Holiday brass and saxophone performances during the weekend before Christmas will feature talented students from Marysville, Bothell and Arlington.
Holiday entertainment is also available at Tulalip Casino. Part of the casino’s nightly entertainment is a cabaret show that blends live entertainment, dancing and celebrity shows.
Overall, Quil Ceda Village provides a well-rounded sampling of holiday fun. A favorite of Tammy Townsend, Stanwood, is Eagles Buffet, one of four restaurants housed at Tulalip Casino.
“I love eating at the buffet because of the variety,” she said. “There’s every kind of food you can think of – Mexican, Chinese, Sunday afternoon kind of stuff. It’s my family’s favorite place to go.”
