United Way of Snohomish County is looking for volunteers to help with its second annual Project Homeless Connect from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. June 29 at Everett’s Cascade High School, 801 E. Casino Road. The one-day event will deliver immediate vital services to 700 homeless individuals and families while trying to improve long-term access to services. Centennial Campfire event

Founded in 1910, the national Camp Fire USA organization has led youth development programs for multiple generations. The community is invited to visit camp between 3-9 p.m. July 31 at Camp Kiloqua. Enjoy tours and other activities, stop by the barbecue for dinner from 5-6:30 p.m. and take part in a large campfire gathering at 7:30 p.m. as Camp Fire councils across the nation light fires at the same hour. Rally for the Cure in Mill Creek

The Mill Creek Tennis Club is hosting a Rally for the Cure with Cardio Tennis and Cardio Tennis for Kids from 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. June 26. Rally for the Cure is a grassroots program to spread awareness about breast health and breast cancer in support of Susan G. Komen for the Cure through volunteer-organized golf, tennis and social events.

The Tennis Club invites the public to take part in a class and “Burn Calories to Save Lives.” The day’s activities will include a special “pink” lunch. Poetry and music in the MLT Library

Join the MLT Library at 1 p.m. June 26 when local poet Kwami Nyamidie will read from his book, “Ready for Your Love,” and other works. Doggie date night

Starting at 6:30 p.m. June 25 at Firdale Village, the Phoenix Theatre, the Dining Dog and Peanut’s Pals Doggie Daycare will team to provide their patrons with the ultimate doggie date night. Begin with dinner at the Dining Dog Café and Bakery, where dogs will be served a four-course meal and owners will be served pizza and salad. It’s then playtime at Peanut’s Pals Doggie Daycare, where the dogs will snack on PupCorn and watch a movie specially selected for their viewing pleasure, while their humans enjoy a play at the Phoenix Theatre. Airborne seeks veterans

The 82nd Airborne Division is looking for veterans who have passed through the division in the past 66 years. The 82nd Airborne Division has served in Afghanistan and Iraq for the past few years and will return for another tour of duty. The division has 100 civilian chapters across the country. The 34,000 members hold regular meetings, picnics, dances, reunions, parades and an annual convention. Combat is not a requirement. Lynnwood Rotary rummage sale

The Lynnwood Rotary is hosting a rummage sale from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. June 26 at Meadowdale High School, 6002 168th St. SW.

Lynnwood Rotarians will also be at Meadowdale High School from 9 a.m.-7 p.m. on June 24 and 25 to accept donations or used items for the sale.

All donations are tax-deductible and receipts will be provided.

YOUTH ACTIVITIES

Leadership Challenge program

Leadership Snohomish County is accepting applications for its Leadership Challenge Program for Young Adults. This program is designed for young adults, age 21-27, who live or work in Snohomish County and who want to make a difference and develop their abilities as leaders.

The hands-on immersion program will last six months, starting Oct. 1. Participants will spend 50-60 hours in a leadership project for a local nonprofit organization. The group also will meet one evening a month to discuss a leadership topic and how it applies to participants’ projects. There also will be a four-hour community board training to learn more about boards and how to serve on boards effectively.

Mill Creek library summer reading

The Teen Summer Reading Program is running now until Aug. 27. Teen ages 12-18 are encouraged to submit online reviews of their summer reads for a chance to win a $10 gift card to a local business. The end-of-summer grand prize is a new 8GB Apple iPod nano. The grand prize drawing is limited to those who have submitted five or more reviews during the program. Mill Creek Senior Center Waffle Breakfast

The Mill Creek Senior Center is having a breakfast to raise funds for their new center location from 8:30-11 a.m. July 8 at the Merrill Gardens Retirement Community, 14905 Bothell-Everett Highway, Mill Creek. There will be real waffles, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, coffee, tea and juice. The suggested donation is $10.
