Crusaders fall

to Evergreen Lutheran

The Evergreen Lutheran girls did it again.

The Eagles, who handed Shoreline Christian its first loss of the season last month, knocked off the Crusaders 59-49 in a winner-to-state semifinal game in the tri-district tournament Feb. 19 at Chief Leschi High School.

Evergreen Lutheran, ranked third in 2B by WashingtonPreps.com, overcame an 11-point halftime deficit, outscoring the fourth-ranked Crusaders 36-15 in the second half.

The Eagles scored the first seven points of the second half and never looked back.

“For whatever reason (we) just seemed to slip down 10 percent and you just don’t do that to a team like Evergreen Lutheran,” Shoreline Christian Stan De Yager said.

Evergreen Lutheran adjusted to the Crusaders’ press and shot 52 percent in the second half.

Erika Laete scored 17 points to lead the Eagles. Julia DeKoekkoek led Shoreline Christian with 15 and Colleen Woods added 14.

Shoreline Christian is scheduled to play Darrington in a winner-to-state game at 3 p.m. today, Friday, Feb. 23 at Chief Leschi in Puyallup.

Pasic goes two-and-out at state

Shorecrest senior Ryan Pasic lost his first round match to Garrett Erickson of Columbia River 7-2 and then dropped a 7-4 decision to Stephen Pedersen of Franklin Pierce in the 3A tournament at Mat Classic XIX.

While the result at state was disappointing, Pasic said he was glad to have made it to state.
