Young qualifies for national meet

Katrina Young of Shoreline qualified for the Speedo National Junior Diving Championships in three events, placing in the top 12 in each event at the 2006 Junior Summer West Championships in Pasadena, Calif., July 6-9.

Young, who competes in the 14-15—year-old age group, won the 3-meter title, was second in platform and 11th in one-meter.

The Speedo championships will be held July 26-30 at the Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis.

Shoreline CC AD moving on

Shoreline Community College athletic director Ken Burrus is vacating his position to take a job as district director for physical education and athletics and recreation at Spokane Falls Community College and Spokane Community College.

Burrus started at Shoreline in 1982 as a recreation coordinator, event manager and fundraiser. He later served as an assistant men’s basketball coach and directed the intramural program. After earning a master’s degree in physical education, he took over as athletic director in 1997.
