Shorecrest grad helps WWU crew win medal
Gina Auriemma of Lake Forest Park, a 2005 Shorecrest graduate, competed on Western Washington University’s four-woman novice crew team that took the silver medal at the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships held in Gold River, Calif., April 30.
The Vikings’ novice shell completed the 2,000-meter course on Lake Natoma in 7 minutes, 29 seconds, second behind Saint Mary’s.
Auriemma was the No. 3 person in the boat.
Shorecrest softball grad honored
Geneva Hale, a 2004 Shorecrest graduate who plays first base and designated hitter for the Willamette University softball team, earned All-Northwest Conference second team honors as a utility player. Hale set the Willamette single-season record for home runs with six, including a grand slam in the season opener. Hale’s 31 RBIs were second in the Willamette record book for a single season. Hale, who hit fifth in the order, batted .400 with a .680 slugging percentage as a designated hitter in conference play. She also led all first basemen with a .990 fielding percentage.
