Yaw captures bronze medal

Three gymnasts from Mountlake Terrace-based Cascade Elite Gymnastics earned medals at the Washington State Gymnastics Championships March 6 at the University of Washington.

Brier’s Jeramie Hardi, Woodinville’s Joey Lawrence and Shoreline’s Adam Yaw swept the gold, silver and bronze all-around medals in the Junior Elite Class 1.

Hardi placed first on floor, rings and high bar and posted the best all-around score of 52.5, followed by Lawrence (51.5) and Yaw (50.4).

All three Cascade Elite gymnasts are coached by Darius Campbell and will take part in the regional championships April 3-4 in Billings, Mont.

Late homers help Shorewood

Shorewood sluggers Tommy Guttu and Grant Boudon each supplied game-winning home runs last week for the Thunderbirds.

Guttu’s grand slam in the bottom of the seventh inning powered Shorewood to a 7-4 victory over North Kitsap March 20.

A day earlier, Boudon smacked a two-out, two-run shot in the top of the seventh to spark a 5-4 comeback win over Central Kitsap.

Guttu went 3-for-3 with a double and a solo home run against Central Kitsap. In Shorewood’s two non-league games, the senior third baseman went a combined 7-for-8 with two home runs and six RBI.
