Three former Edmonds Community College standouts have signed with the Colorado State University-Pueblo baseball team.
Tyler Rice (Gig Harbor HS, Gig Harbor, Wash.), Reid Dehnert (Kent HS, Kentlake, Wash.) and Daniel Ninomiya (Woodinville HS, Woodinville, Wash.) are among nine players signed by the school.
The ThunderWolves scored three recruits from Edmonds Community College in Lynnwood, Wash., who helped the team to the championship in the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges. Pitcher Rice, Edmonds’ top arm, joins the Pack after posting an 8-1 record at Edmonds.
“He has a real chance of being a Friday night guy for us,” Sanchez said. “He’s got a live arm and we’re expecting big things out of him.”
Joining Rice at CSU-Pueblo are Denhert and Ninomiya. Ninomiya was the Tritons’ top player in the NWWAAC tournament, earning MVP honors, while Dehnert, a graduate of Kentlake High School in Kent, Wash., will join high school teammate, Rutger Bovard (Kent HS, Kentlake, Wash.), on the Pack roster. Last season, Bovard was a second-team all-conference selection at CSU-Pueblo
“All three of these guys have proven that they know how to win,” Sanchez said, “and they help to make our team immediately better.”
The latest group of nine signees ups the Pack’s 2009 class to 19 new signees, one of the biggest and best classes Sanchez has had in his 15 years at CSU-Pueblo.

Former EdCC coach hired by Huskies
Former Edmonds Community College baseball coach Tighe Dickinson has been promoted to a full-time assistant coach Washington head baseball coach Ken Knutson announced.
Dickinson, who has spent the last three seasons as the Huskies’ volunteer assistant, moved into a spot vacated when former assistant Donny Harrel left the UW earlier this summer to become the new head coach at Seattle University.
“I’m really excited about promoting Tighe to the full-time position,” said Knutson, who enters his 18th season as the Husky head man. “He has been instrumental in the development of several very successful pitchers, like Tim Lincecum, Nick Hagadone, Nick Haughian and Jorden Merry.”
Dickinson, who will continue to work with the Husky pitching staff, was the head coach at Edmonds Community College in 2004 and 2005, before leaving to join the staff at the UW. In his first season at Washington, he helped coach Lincecum, the winner of the 2006 Golden Spikes Award as the nation’s top amateur baseball player.
Dickinson led Edmonds to a 75-16 overall record during the 2004 and 2005 seasons and was co-head coach in 2002 when the Tritons won the NWAACC championship. In 2003, he was head coach at Skyline High School.
A native of Aberdeen, Wash., Dickinson graduated from Montesano (Wash.) High in 1994. After one season pitching at Green River CC in Auburn, he played three years at Alabama-Birmingham, earning his degree in 1999.
