Jackson’s Oh named all-state

Jackson outfielder Danny Oh was selected to the media’s 2008 first team all-state baseball team.

King’s boys soccer coach Ben Somoza, an Edmonds-Woodway graduate who led the Knights to their first Class 1A boys soccer title this spring, was voted 1A boys soccer coach of the year by a statewide media panel.

Mountlake Terrace senior shortstop Garrett Totten also earned first-team honors.

Mountlake Terrace’s Jake Theis and Edmonds-Woodway’s Kramer Scott earned second-team honors. Meadowdale’s Chase Anselment was a first-team Class 3A selection and Archbishop Murphy’s Jake Robinett earned 2A honorable mention honors. In softball, Lynnwood’s Jerrica Kang was voted to the second team. Meadowdale’s Ryan Olson earned second-team, boys soccer honors and Archbishop Murphy’s Tyler Allen was selected to the 2A boys soccer second team.

The teams were selected by a panel of Washington sportswriters and coordinated by the Tri-City Herald. To receive recognition, a player had to receive at least two votes.

Fruland and Rogers receive Gillies Award

Jackson’s Emily Fruland and Jimmy Rogers were the recipients of the annual Cliff Gillies Award for the 2007-08 school year. The awards recognize students for their participation in student activities, academic achievement, sportsmanship and citizenship.
