Hall says he took Cleveland job to be closer to home
Shawn Hall resigned as coach of the Shorewood boys basketball team to coach closer to where he lives in south Seattle and get back into the Metro League.
“It’s right around the corner from my house. My family’s able to be a part of it. Mainly it’s closer to home and I kind of wanted to get back into Metro,” said Hall, who previously coached the Rainier Beach girls and was a boys assistant at Ingraham.
“I enjoyed it,” he said of his time at Shorewood. “There’s good people there, a good support system. The parents were supportive. It was a tough decision.”
Hall went 2-38 in two seasons with the T-birds.
After the season was over, eighteen Shorewood basketball parents signed a letter outlining several concerns to Shoreline Schools superintendent Sue Walker, Shorewood principal Bill Dunbar and school athletic director Vicki Gorman. The letter complained about how the school mishandled the coordination of a preseason camp that was to include motivational speakers and team bonding activities. It also mentioned the “lack of attention” to senior Stuart Harvey’s eligibility status that caused the team to forfeit two games in which he played that the team won. Harvey was not in school the prior semester and therefore should have been ineligible, according to Washington Interscholastic Activities Association rules. Harvey plans to petition for another year of eligibility in the fall.

Shorecrest’s Wissing meets with team
New Shorecrest girls basketball coach Ed Wissing met with his players for the first time June 19.
“It was nice,” he said. “The girls seemed excited as was I. I can tell we’re not exactly a tall team. It might change what you do but it doesn’t mean you can’t be successful. They seemed eager and excited.”
Wissing is familiar with the Shoreline School District since his father taught at Shorecrest and Shorewood, and served as an line coach for the Shorewood football team.
Wissing, who coached at Sehome the last two years, grew up in Kirkland and graduated from Juanita High School, and also was an exchange student in Germany.
Wissing, who majored in history at Western Washington University, will teach social studies at Shorecrest.
“It seems like a great place to work,” he said.
