Shorecrest splits at districts

The Shorecrest baseball team beat Sedro-Woolley 10-2 May 6 to stay alive in the 3A District 1 playoffs.

James Robbins got the win for the Scots (6-15).

Shorecrest played Mount Vernon in a loser-out game Wednesday, May 7 in a game played after Enterprise deadlines.

Shorecrest lost its opener, 6-1, to third-ranked Ferndale.

Local athletes compete in karate district championship

The 2008 Pacific Northwest AAU Karate District Championships featuring 157 athletes from Washington, Idaho, Montana and British Columbia were held April 12 at Edmonds Community College. The event was a qualifier for the AAU Karate West Coast Super Regional which is slated for May 1 in Grants Pass, Ore.

Participating athletes completed the first three stages in order to be eligible to compete in Albany, N.Y., this summer in the AAU Karate Grand Nationals.

The following is a list of the top three finishers from the USA Karate dojo in Shoreline which features local athletes from Edmonds, Lake Forest Park, Lynnwood, Mountlake Terrace, Seattle, Shoreline and Snohomish. Five of the eight most outstanding athlete awards went to members of the dojo.

Robbins named “Coach of the Year”

Emerson “Skip” Robbins, head coach of the FC Shoreline International, boys U-17 soccer team was named Competitive Coach of the Year by the Washington State Youth Soccer Association.

Robbins coached the team to the boys U-17 Fred Meyer Commissioners’ Cup championship this past season. Players from 11 different countries are represented on the team.

North Sound Christian hoop player honored

Tanner Mahler, a freshman shooting guard at North Sound Christian, was invited to participate in the USA Junior Nationals International Sports Festival July 21-27 in Columbus, Ohio. Mahler was selected based on his performance at an all-state competition at Bellevue Community College.
