Local graduates help lead Bellevue to baseball title
A trio of local graduates helped lead Bellevue Community College to the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges baseball championship.
Justin Lucero (Meadowdale), Kyle Torgerson (Edmonds-Woodway) and Jesse Wight (Kamiak) helped Bellevue capture its first title since 1979 with a 3-0 victory over Skagit Valley May 28 in the championship game at Story Field in Longview.
Lucero has accepted a baseball scholarship to play at New Mexico State University next year and Wight has a scholarship to play at University of Nevada-Las Vegas.
The Bulldogs finished the season 37-11 overall and secured a No. 24 ranking in a national junior college poll. Lucero and Wight earned first-team, all-league honors. Wight also was an all-tournament selection.
