SPORTS BRIEFS: Mavs wrap up at state

Meadowdale advanced to the second day of the Class 3A state volleyball tournament.

The Mavericks lost 25-22, 25-18, 25-19 to Kennewick in a first-round match on Nov. 12.

Meadowdale then rebounded to beat Timberline 25-19, 25-23, 28-26.

The victory earned Meadowdale a consolation semifinal match against Camas, which the Mavericks lost 25-25, 27-25, 25-17.

Meadowdale finished 12-7 overall.

Everett names scholar-athlete winners

The Everett School District’s fall scholar-athlete award winners were announced on Nov. 8. One female athlete and one male athlete from each district high school received the honor. The Jackson winners are:

• Denae Fitz, soccer. She is a team captain and four-year varsity letterwinner who has a 3.89 GPA and is an active member of National Honor Society and Girls Scouts.

• Sean Roe, cross country. He has been captain of Jackson’s cross country and track teams, has a 3.895 GPA (seven advanced placement classes), and is a member of National Honor Society.
