THUNDERBIRD SELECT BASKETBALL: Tryouts for Thunderbird Select Basketball, an AAU basketball program for boys entering grades five through eight who will eventually attend Shorewood High School, will be held October 6-8 at the Shoreline Center Spartan gym at the following times: Fifth and sixth graders: 7:30-9 p.m. Oct 6, 5:30-7 p.m.; Seventh and eighth graders, 5:30-7 p.m. Oct. 7; 5:30-7 p.m. Oct. 8. Pre-season basketball clinics will be held at the Einstein Gymnasium on Sept. 18, 25, 30 and Oct. 2 at the following times: Fifth and sixth grade: 6-7:25 p.m.; Seventh and eighth grade: 7:35-9 p.m.

BASKETBALL COACHING OPPORTUNITY: Thunderbird Select Hoops (www.thunderbirdselecthoops.org), an AAU basketball organization for boys in grades 5-8 who will eventually attend Shorewood High School, is seeking a coach for next year’s fifth-grade team. Tryouts will be in September, and the team will compete in the Wesco Youth Basketball League (www.infosports.com/wybl/) beginning in December. Interested candidates should have experience in coaching games as well as teaching fundamental skills essential for success at the high school level.
