SHORECREST HIP-HOP: Shorecrest High School’s 19-member hip-hop dance team plans to travel to Orlando, Fla. March 2-5 to represent the state of Washington in a national competition. To raise money for the trip, the team will present “Dancin’ with the Stars” at 8 p.m. Fri., Jan. 12, and 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. Sat., Jan. 13, at the Performing Arts Center at Shorecrest. The Shorecrest hip-hop team will perform along with breakdancing, salsa and modern dance groups. Advance tickets are $13 at Westlake Dance Center or Sensé Nail Spa or $15 at the door.

The cost to travel and compete in the event is estimated at $35,000. The team, which raised more than $5,000 over the summer, hopes to raise $18,000 from “Dancin’ with the Stars.”

Shorecrest won its first-ever state Class 3A title in the hip-hop dance category at the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association’s Dance and Drill Championships last March at the Yakima SunDome.

YOUTH BASKETBALL LEAGUE: The city of Shoreline is introducing a recreational youth basketball league for girls and boys in grades three through eight. Games are played on Saturdays at the Spartan Recreation Center. Teams practice once a week and play one game a week. The league runs from Jan. 22 through March 31. Volunteer coaches are needed.
