Democratic 32nd District state Rep. Ruth Kagi has two challengers.
One is Robert Reedy, of Mountlake Terrace, who entered the race on the second day of last week’s filing period with a party preference of “GOP.” Then, as the filing week neared its end Friday afternoon, Eric R. Alvey, of Seattle, filed with the GOP designation and Reedy changed his party preference to “Republican.”
Kagi will seek an eighth two-year term in the Legislature.
Reedy was an unsuccessful challenger to Mountlake Terrace City Councilwoman Michele Robles last year.
The three will run in the Aug. 7 primary, with the top two vote-getters advancing to the Nov. 6 general election, regardless of party.
Democratic 32nd District Rep. Cindy Ryu will have one Republican opponent: Randy Hayden, of Edmonds, who owns construction and mini-storage businesses and is a member of the Snohomish County Alcohol and Drug Advisory Board as well as an applicant to replace Michael Plunkett on the Edmonds City Council.
The two will have their names on the primary ballot, which will be little more than a popularity contest.
The district includes Lynnwood, part of Mountlake Terrace, south Edmonds, Woodway and nearby unincorporated areas of southwest Snohomish County, Shoreline and part of northwest Seattle.
