ARLINGTON

After scoring only 21 points as a team in the first half, Jocelyn Riordan, Gloria Tseng and the Shorecrest Scots knew they had to make some adjustments against Everett.

“I think the first half we started playing their game,” Riordan said.

But Riordan scored 13 of her game-high 17 points in the third quarter as the Scots went on a 21-10 run to take a 14-point lead. They hung on for a 50-37 victory in the consolation round of the 3A District 1 playoffs Feb. 26 at Arlington High School.

Shorecrest made 8-of-11 shots for 73 percent in the third quarter to take command 42-28, after leading 21-18 at the half.

The Scots didn’t make a field goal in the fourth quarter on 0-of-8 shooting and Everett cut the lead to 42-35 on a jumper by Alysia Letourneau with 3:15 to go.

But Shorecrest made of 8-of-14 free throws in the final minutes to hang on for the win.

Shorecrest outrebounded Everett 36-21, led by Tseng who had 12 boards.

“They beat us on the boards and we gave them too many second shot opportunities,” Everett coach Kelly McCoy said. “We tried to come back but we had a hard time finishing. They did a zone which was smart and we weren’t finishing our shots.”

Riordan, who scored only two points in the first half, said the Scots played the Seagulls pace early on, taking too many outside shots.

Tseng scored 11 of her 13 points in the first half.

“She kept us in the game,” Shorecrest coach Jon Rasmussen said.

Ashley Hagood scored 13 points for Shorecrest. Letourneau and Alex MacCormac led Everett with 10 points apiece.

The Scots moved on to play Arlington Thursday night after Enterprise deadlines.

“I wouldn’t say we’re playing our best but we’re getting it done,” Riordan said. “We’re executing when we need to so that’s good but we know we can play even better.”

“We’re climbing up the ladder and trying to earn respect,” Rasmussen said.

Shorecrest 58, Lynnwood 45

Shorecrest started fast against Lynnwood outscoring the Royals 22-7 in the first quarter and cruised to a 58-45 3A District 1 playoff win Feb. 23 at Arlington High School.

Jocelyn Riordan scored a game high 22 points to lead the Scots and help keep their season alive. Abriana Hill led Lynnnwood with 18 points.

Mount Vernon 51, Shorecrest 47

Shorecrest led most of the game and took a 33-31 lead into the fourth quarter on the road at Mount Vernon.

But Mount Vernon’s Ally Kutz scored 12 of her 16 points in the fourth quarter as the Bulldogs started the quarter on a 16-5 run and went on to beat the Scots 51-47.

The Bulldogs abilty to get second-chance points proved to be a difference maker as they outrebounded Shorecrest 19-11 on the offensive boards.

Kutz also hit back-to-back 3-pointers that gave Mount Vernon a seven-point edge with 2:50 to play. Shorecrest struggled from the free throw line, making only 3-of-10 shots.

Jocelyn Riordan led Shorecrest with 17 points.
