Students of the Month

The Edmonds School District has named the high school students of the month for January. They are:

Edmonds-Woodway

Carla Galvez

GPA: 3.56

Clubs: Link Crew Commissioner &Leader; Warrior Camp Senior Counselor &dorm leader; Drill Team Treasurer and member; Homecoming Junior Co-chair; ASB Warrior Period Representative; Multi-Cultural Co-chair; Homecoming Co-chair;

Honors: Taking honors biology, honors chemistry, honors physics, honors math, AP European History, IB history of Americas; member of the National Honor Society; Outstanding Honors Chemistry; Outstanding French; Cispus Leadership Scholarship; nominee for the Youth Forum of Medicine;

Community service: 119 hours internship – watching operations, sterilize equipment, hand out materials during emergencies, etc;

Athletics: JV tennis;

Future plans: Plans to major in Genetic Engineering and minor in French.

Liz Koehn

GPA: 3.869

Clubs: Play Production, member of Environmental Club; freshman class secretary;

Honors: Nominated for National Honors Society, International Baccalaureate student;

Community service: Volunteers at Driftwood Players, Edmonds Art Festival;

Athletics: Ballet;

Future plans: Get a creative writing or philosophy degree from a small, liberal arts school – Oberlin, Wesleyan, Vassar or Reed. Liz would also like to study abroad in Spain or Russia.

Mallory Gibbons

GPA: 3.7

Clubs: Orchestra, Jazz Band, Link Crew, Interhigh, church youth group, teaching piano/violin, National Honor Society

Honors: Cascade Symphony Orchestra’s Outstanding Achievement in Music Award, 3 school music awards

Community service: Through church youth group: Giving dinners to people in need, clean up houses, yards and cemetery, playing piano for weddings, writing music for church musical, counselor for Summer Girls Camp for 2 years;

Future plans: Pursue a career in music at Brigham Young University.

Megan Wilbourne

GPA: 3.5

Clubs: Link Crew, Interhigh and leadership;

Honors: Homec00oming princess, perfect attendance;

Community service: Volunteered at Alderwood Middle School;

Athletics: Going to do rugby and possibly track, snowboarding;

Future plans: Planning to go to a community college to become a teacher, dental assistant or a nanny.

Meadowdale

Donna Chan

GPA: 3.74

Clubs: Vice President of National Honor Society, Inter-high member, Mock Trial Team Member, Link Crew, Key Club, Leo Club, FCCLA, Diversity leadership team, Freshmen and Sophomore class officer, Junior year executive council activities coordinator, senior year executive council vice president;

Honors: Numerous honors classes; AP World history, AP U.S. history, AP calculus and AP chemistry courses, swim instructor of the year at the city of Lynnwood recreation center; Student of the month March 2004, April 2003 and February 2002, Homecoming princess freshmen year;

Community service: Volunteer for the Special Olympics, dress up in a character costume for the city of Lynnwood civic lights celebration every year;

Athletics: Softball, girls varsity swim team, swim captain senior year.

Future plans: Major in nursing in college and then go to graduate school to become a nurse practitioner.

Rachel Myhre

GPA: 3.9

Clubs: National Honors Society, Band, Leo Club, Link Crew

Honors: Cross-country captain, Student-Athlete of the Month, Edmonds Rotary Student of the Month, Presidential Award for Community Service;

Community service: Mexico Missions trip, Vacation Bible School Table leader;

Athletics: Cross-country, softball;

Future plans: Attend and graduate from a four-year university to receive an education or a business degree.
