The following were selected by the Mill Creek Rotary Club.
DECEMBER
Archbishop Murphy
Jonathan Jensen
GPA: 3.7
Awards: member of the AMHS soccer team that won the first state soccer title in the school’s history
Community Service: assisted coaching younger athletes, volunteer at retirement homes, a camp for special needs children and is a lector at his church. Also serves as an ambassador for his school’s recruitment team, which travels to local grade schools and talks to students about Archbishop Murphy High School. He also served as a page in the state Senate.
Sports: is a member of the AMHS varsity soccer, basketball and track teams.
JANUARY
Katie Myers
Awards: Was the first recipient of the Holy Cross Award for the Class of 2004, given to one student in the class who best exemplifies academic excellence, demonstrates leadership and service to the school, and has a commitment to spiritual growth.
Clubs: AMHS Recruitment Team, member of student government since her freshman year, class Activities Director in grades 9 through 11 and ASB Activities Director. She also assisted in planning Prom 2003, Homecoming 2003, Winter Ball 2004, and a St. Patrick’s Day Shamrock n’ Roll dance. She is a member of the yearbook staff and is this year’s co-editor. She also writes the advice column, among other articles, for the student-produced newspaper, The Scratching Post.
Honors: member of the National Honor Society since her sophomore year, and has been on the honor roll since her freshmen year. She currently is enrolled in two Advanced Placement classes.
Community Service: Tutored several AMHS students outside of school. She is a volunteer at St. Elizabeth Anne Seton parish and this year, Katie is collecting hats for chemotherapy patients in honor of her younger sister’s recovery after several years of treatment.
Sports: Cheerleading for the past three years, including serving as an all-season captain.
Jackson
Taryn Polich
Clubs: Member of the Key Club, Leaders of the Pack, Young Life, ASB Congress, and the Everett School District Equity and diversity Committee. She was also Sophomore Class President.
Honors: Member of the National Honor Society
Sports: Captain of the AMHS cheer squad
FEBRUARY
Archbishop Murphy
Amy Axley
Clubs: treasurer of the National Honor Society and secretary of the Art Club.
Awards: was voted the most inspirational player on the girls golf team during her junior year, and received the award for outstanding art student in winter 2003.
Community Service: assisted in the Vacation Bible School program at her church, serves a reading tutor at Mill Creek Elementary School, and helped the AMHS National Honor Society raise money for an orphanage in Mexico. She currently is a first grade catechist in the religious education program at St. Brendan parish.
Sports: Varsity girls golf team for two years
Jackson
Rheanne Wirkkala
Clubs: Member of the Key Club, ASB Congress, Leaders of the Pack and Peer Mediation. She also was vice president of the Freshman class, Activities Coordinator and Secretary on the ASB Executive Board.
Honors: Member of the National Honor Society, and has been a presenter/delegate to the Washington Association of Student Councils, Shoreline Leadership Conference, National Association of Student Councils, and Junior State of America summer school program.
