Jennifer Thao Nguyen

Activities: President of FCCLA, Vice President of National Honor Society, ASB Historian, Wind House Mentor, Appointed Class Officer 2006-07, ASB Historian

Honors: WESCO Academic Achievement (2005-06, 2006-07), TOPPS Academic Achievement in Psychology (2006-07), Perfect Attendance (2005-06, 2006-07)

Community service: Currently building a mosaic bench for the Seattle’s Children Hospital, annually volunteers at the March of Dimes and the Seattle Diabetes Expo, volunteered at the Husky Stadium Concession Stands, Invisible Children’s “Displace Me.”

Senior project: IB Extended Essay —I researched how taking preschool affected the academics and social relationships of American children in kindergarten.

Employment: I am not currently employed but I did work as a cashier for the Alderwood Jamba Juice last summer and a sales associate at Silverworks in the summer before that.

Future: I am planning to earn a major in biology and then complete medical school.

Future career: I want to graduate from medical school to become a pediatrician because I enjoy working around children.

Lynnwood High School

Giorgiana Popovici

Parents: Sofia Popovici and Rodica Radu

GPA: 3.89

Activities: I volunteer in an Adult Family Home. I keep myself busy doing lots of homework and projects, and learning new languages.

Honors: National Honor Society, Lynnwood High School Academic Achievement (twice), English Award, Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Pictorial and Essay Project (Certificate of Appreciation), Junior Achievement NEFE HS Financial Planning Program

Senior project: My senior project is making a children’s book in Spanish, which I dedicate to my father Pavel Popovici and my uncle Petru Radu. I really enjoy doing my project. It’s a challenging experience.

Future: I’m planning on going to college for 2 years of paralegal, than for another 2 years of university, and then enroll in a law school.

Future career: I want to be successful in the law field, and hoping to achieve being a judge.

Other: I can speak five languages which are: Romanian, English, Spanish, Portuguese, and French. I am also from Romania, and I have been living in the United States for two years. I live with my aunt and uncle which I am grateful for, but my parents and the rest of my family live in Romania.

Zach Wieben

Activities: Hi-Q, Science Olympiad, Band, Varsity Tennis, Varsity Golf

Honors: Co-captain Boys Tennis Team, Co-captain Boys Golf Team, AP Scholar, National Honor Society Member, Most Improved (Golf), Most Dedicated (Tennis), Coaches Award (Tennis), Social Studies Department Award.

Community service: I have helped coach youth basketball and have also helped out with LHS’s canned food drive and other community service activities. I have also given blood the last two years in LHS’s blood drive.

Senior project: I am restoring a 1968 Dodge Dart to street legality.

Employment: Lifeguard/Swim Instructor at Mountlake Terrace Pavilion.

Future: I hope to get a good internship while in college and then graduate from a four-year university. I also hope to study abroad in the South Pacific.

Future career: Undecided but probably some type of engineering field.

Other: I like to listen/play music in my free time. Proud to be an LHS Royal.

Meadowdale High

Yvonne Gay

Parents: Angelene Gay and Richard Beckham.

GPA: 3.5

Activities: Before I moved here, I played tenor sax in the school band. At my old school I was in drama. I really enjoyed it a lot. Something about being on stage pumps life into me. I was the lead in “Break a Leg” by John O’Brien and “You Have the Right to Remain Dead” by Pat Cook, and had a few minor parts in “The Least Offensive Play in the Whole Darn World” by Jonathan Rand.

Community service: I am a peer educator with the Planned Parenthood Teen Council. I go to schools and to classes on many reproductive health issues. I do classes in sexually transmitted infections, teen parenting, dating violence and birth control.

Senior project: For my senior project I am making a quilt.

Employment: I work at the Motherhood Maternity. It’s a maternity store in the Alderwood mall. I’ve worked there since September. It’s a really fun job.

Future: I want to maybe go to Central Washington or Gonzaga. They are my top choices.

Future career: I want to be a Japanese translator and eventually teach English in Japan. In my old school they didn’t have Japanese. I was going to take Spanish but I dropped it for band my freshman year.

Other: I live with my Uncle Leroy. I moved to Washington from Ohio in January of 2006, half way through my sophomore year. Before that I went to Northridge High School. I love it here.

Mari Tasche

Parents: Valerie Tasche and Chris Tasche

GPA: 3.5

Activities: LINK Crew, National Honor Society, YoungLife, four years varsity soccer, and eight years on select soccer team: Snohomish United, high school track

Honors: Student of the month in math and English, won second place in the Edmonds Art Commission creative writing contest. For high school soccer: two years first team all WESCO, two years second team all area, two years captain, voted best defensive player and most inspirational by teammates, athlete of the month for November.

Community service: Assistant coaching a U-11 (under 11) girls select soccer team: Evergreen 96

Senior project: Starting a club called WyldLife at Meadowdale Middle School for the eighth-grade students where young teenagers can go to learn how to have fun in a positive way and also learn about God.

Future: I am going to a four-year college, possibly Linfield College or Occidental College, where I plan to play soccer and explore different areas of science and business.

Future career: Possibly a private medical practice or a business-related career. When I go to college I want to find something I am passionate about and find a career which correlates with it.

Other: My friends, family and teachers have always been very supportive of me and my ambitions; without them I would not be the person I am today.

Mountlake Terrace High

Tim Maass

Scriber Lake High

Tiffany Carter

Activities: EWHS Bowling league, playoffs for state championship; Clogging and River Dance group (two years); soccer team, playoffs for state championship (eight years); baseball team; basketball team; volleyball team.

Honors: Tiffany will be honored at an Edmonds Exchange Club breakfast meeting on January 23 as the ACE (Accepting the Challenge of Excellence) winner.

Employment: Currently working at Terminal Caffeine as barista in Edmonds. Previously employed at Scrub A Pup, Albertsons and City of Lynnwood in Human Resources Department.

Future: Apprenticeship program in Sheet Metal

Other: Tiffany has taken Auto Basics, Child Care classes, Chef School I and II, INSTEP, Guitar and Stained Glass classes

Kelli Symer

Activities: Family Consumer Career Leaders of America, Key Club, Scriber Lake High School ASB Representative

Employment: Symer has worked at Dairy Queen for two years and was awarded with Employee of the Month in July.

Future: Attend Shoreline Community College to pursue registered nursing degree.

Other: Currently enrolled at Sno-Isle Skills Center Nursing Assistant Program, participating in Skills USA at Sno-Isle Skills Center.
