We previously interviewed Edmonds’ current mayor, Gary Haakenson. We called his office to set up an appointment, his assistant gave us a time right away and we were delighted that he was so open to set up an appointment with us. We know that Gary doesn’t just care about the adults in Edmonds but he also cares about the kids and their opinions

Haakenson has been our mayor for eight years. Before he was our mayor, he started small by co-founding Zumiez, which has grown to a whopping 260 stores today. Now, Mayor Haakenson says, “I have more patience than I did before. You just learn that you have to have patience with people.”

Haakenson also takes on many volunteering roles; he does small things such as go to schools and talk with the kids. He does larger things that include the whole town: “I am always involved in the community somehow.”

When asked what do you like most about being mayor, Haakenson said, “This is probably the most fun, talking to you guys. I’d much rather talk to young adults than full-blown adults.”

I think we can all see that Haakenson is a great mayor and personally we think it should stay that way. Vote for Gary Haakenson to keep Edmonds going in the right direction.
