A recent outbreak of burglaries in Shoreline’s North City Business District has spread concern among business owners in the area.
Seven burglaries have occurred since Jan. 3. The burglaries were initially identified as sporadic, although there has been a recent surge in activity. The second burglary occurred Jan. 31 and following in close succession were five burglaries between Feb. 2-20.
According to Detective Sgt. James Knauss, the locations of burglaries have been random, with the exception of a laundromat that was robbed twice.
Items of value are not necessarily being taken, Knauss said, and items stolen include car models and coins.
The burglars are inconsistent, he said, and the pattern varies widely. Suspects have accessed buildings via the roof, while other instances indicate entrance through a window, or a broken front door.
“The patterns are so diversely different,” Knauss said. “Normally we have someone who likes to break a window or door, but in this series there are three different patterns.”
Police will speak to North City Business Association members at their March 8 meeting to offer safety precautions, such as securing businesses, setting alarms and looking out for one another.
No suspects have been identified and police are still investing the cases.
