LYNNWOOD — A 28-year-old Lynnwood man was captured Jan. 15 after fleeing from police, following a traffic stop and hiding in a backyard of a home close to Wilcox Park in Lynnwood.

Police made the traffic stop in a Lynnwood apartment complex parking lot in the 18200 block of 52nd Avenue West. As the officer approached the stopped vehicle the man accelerated, striking two parked vehicles on his way out of the lot, and kept going until he abandoned the vehicle in the 5600 block of 196th Street Southwest, fleeing on foot toward Wilcox Park.

The park and streets surrounding the area were blocked off by police for about 30 minutes. The suspect was captured as he was trying to leave the backyard of a home next to the park where he had been hiding.

The driver, who was believed to be under the influence of narcotics, has a criminal history. He was arrested and booked into jail for investigation of reckless driving, failure to cooperate, hit and run unattended, making false statements and suspended license. The suspect also had a felony warrant out for his arrest.

Robbers arrested after several “takeover” robberies

King County Sheriffs deputies arrested two armed robbers on Friday, Jan. 15 in separate locations. Detectives from at least four jurisdictions were looking for these two robbers, who “takeover” the business they are robbing, up until their arrests last week.

On Jan. 15, at around 1:45 a.m. a Shoreline patrol sergeant noticed a suspicious vehicle parked near two casinos on North 167 Street. He pulled in behind the car and the driver quickly drove off. A short pursuit ensued until the sergeant used a PIT maneuver and the car was stopped about Northeast 163rd and Ashworth Avenue North. The driver took off running and the passenger was taken into custody. The 46-year-old passenger is from Seattle. The second man, 34, was arrested at his home in Edmonds late afternoon Friday.

Takeover-style robberies are considered especially dangerous to victims, witnesses, and bystanders. In some of the robberies one of the suspects carries a shotgun in one hand and a shotgun in the other. These robbers are considered armed and dangerous, according to the Sheriff’s Department.

Between October and January, the robbers are accused of robbing Check to Cash in Renton, Bank of America in Lynnwood, Goldie’s Casino in Shoreline, Royal Casino in unincorporated Snohomish County and Silver Dollar Casino in Sea Tac.
