SHORELINE — When the rain began falling Monday, Shorewood appeared headed toward its 59th consecutive Western Conference 4A South Division boys tennis victory.
But Jackson won all four suspended matches on Tuesday to snap the three-year-long winning streak, gaining a split in the season series and a share of first place.
Mike Reading won a second-set tiebreaker to post a win at No. 1 singles. Alex Yee overcame a second-set setback to win in three sets at No. 2 singles.
Alex Yin came back from a first-set loss to win at No. 3 singles. And the doubles team of Andrew Lathrope and Tim Burke pulled out a three-set win at No. 2 doubles.
“This was a big win for the kids,” Jackson coach David Hutt said. “They’re very excited.”
Should both teams win their remaining matches, they will share the division championship.
