Take a moment to honor those who keep us safe

The Drive to Remember for Fallen Officers rolled through Lynnwood last week, stopping at Alderwood mall on its way to our nation’s capital.

The drive, which started in Vancouver, B.C. ,on April 28, is meant to raise awareness of law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty this past year. The drive ends in Washington, D.C., where the National Police Memorial Service will be held May 15.

According to the Drive to Remember Web site, the fallen in Washington state include Skagit County Sheriff’s deputy Anne Marie Jackson and U.S. Forest Service officer Kristine Fairbanks.

We think it’s worth taking a moment to remember Jackson and Fairbanks, and all of those who gave their lives in service to the public. We also think more tribute should be paid to the men and women protecting our county line communities, and others who work to keep the peace. Their hard work provides the sense of safety that too many of us take for granted.
