So the city of Edmonds is planning on asking us to raise taxes soon. Interesting call in these economic times! The rest of us have to tighten our belts, reduce our standard of living and try our best to weather the storm. The city of Edmonds’ answer? Just raise taxes. It doesn’t take much thought or effort to utter such a phrase, but it’s foolish to do so now, and only a fool would offer it up as a solution. Ask yourself this: What would our newly elected president have to say to this tactic? At the very least, one suspects that the mayor and City Council would receive a severe tongue lashing, and perhaps get an earful about what real vision and true leadership means at the same time. The people elected the mayor and council to act in their best interests, and to use their intelligence and willpower to find true and fair solutions to difficult problems. Raising taxes is a denial of this public trust, and if the mayor and council persist in their desire to raise taxes they should be run out of town and banned from ever holding office again. Shame on you all!
