Team Seattle is in the planning stages for its next soccer adventure. Players who ascribe to Team Seattle’s “No whiners, no prima donnas” mantra are encouraged to join the fun.
In late June 2004, five youth soccer teams and some lucky boosters (parents, siblings, and friends) will jet to the sunny Mediterranean.
First stop, the Costa Brava near Barcelona, Spain. There, the group will participate in friendly games with local clubs in between sightseeing in Barcelona, at the mountaintop monastery of Monserrat and on the beaches and seaside towns.
Next, it’s off to the French Riviera. Hosted by teams in the region of Cannes-Nice, Team Seattle will play in the Mediterranean, tour the tiny hilltop villages of St. Paul and Vence and wander the streets of Nice.
The group will then visit Monaco, the Italian Riviera and Tuscany on its way to Cesenatico, Italy — about three hours south of Venice — for the Italy Cup Soccer Tournament.
This international tournament will cover five days and offer each team at least five games against teams from Asia, Great Britain, Scandinavia and the rest of Europe.
Assisting Team Seattle co-founders Mary Kay and Larry French will be three Team Seattle veterans:
• Danver Halbert, a longtime Shorelake Soccer Club member/coach/referee, will coach boys born in 1989.
• Doug Terrel, another Shorelake Soccer Club all-star member/coach/president, will coach boys born in 1990-91, and girls born after Jan. 1, 1986.
• Dr. John Addison, known in the Mercer Island and Eastside circles for coaching and refereeing, will coach boys born after Aug. 1, 1984 through 1987.
Newcomers to the coaching staff are:
• John Wedge, who for years has trained and coached for Shorelake teams. He will be coaching boys born in 1988.
• Mark Wisdom, another Shorelake coach, will be assisting Terrel with the boys 1990-91 team.
• Madison Batt, who was on the 2002 Italy-Austria trip, will be acting as the manager of John Wedge’s 1988 boys team.
Want to become a part of the Team Seattle alumni? Don’t miss out on the 2004 trip. No tryouts, no trophy hunts. Just the experience of a lifetime and a world of fun.
