Kevin Ramos, Shorecrest

Sports: Football, track

Age: 17

Accolades and achievements: Second team Wesco South wide receiver as a junior. Took second at state 3A track and field meet in the 100-meter dash and ran legs on the first-place 400- and 1,600-meter relay teams.

All in the family: Sister Alexis Ramos, 14; stepbrother Peter McDuffie 17; mother Eileen and stepfather Russ McDuffie; father Marco Ramos.

Favorite athlete: Walter Payton

College plans: Top choice is University of Washington; Idaho and Eastern Washington are also interested.

Interests: Lifting weights, drawing.

Career of choice: Helping his father, Marco, run his Mexican restaurants in Northern California called Casa Ramos.

Favorite subject: History.

No. 1 weapon: Breakaway speed.

Pre-game ritual: Starters get together for a potluck at someone’s house the night before a game and watch game tape.

Goal: Get 3.5 grade point average in school and be one of known athletes in Seattle area.

High school highlight: Being on two winning relays at state track meet and taking second in 100 meters.

Kimberly Mayhle, King’s

Age: 17

Sports: Volleyball, track

Accolades and achievements: All-Cascade Conference second team in volleyball last year as middle blocker; took home third-place medals in 100 and 200 meters, and anchored third-place 800-meter relay team to help lead the Knights to earn a fourth-place trophy at state 2A meet this spring. She also ran a leg on the King’s 800-meter relay team that broke the state meet record in 2005.

All in the family: Brother Anthony, 16; mother Veronica; father Craig.

College plans: New York University or University of Washington

Hobbies: Sewing and art.

Career of choice: Fashion design

Favorite subject: Math

No. 1 weapon: Quickness

Pre-game ritual: Dancing to hip-hop

Goal: Unite as a team and win state in volleyball.

High school highlight: In her freshman year the Knights made it to state with only one returning varsity player.

Elle MacGeorge, Shorewood

Sports: Diving, gymnastics, tennis

Age: 17

Diving: Three-time state 4A qualifier in uneven bars and 4A state qualifier in beam and vault last year. Won Wesco South diving title last year and finished 21st at state. Made 4A District 1 tennis tournament in doubles. Also a member of the T-birds state champion pom team and second-place drill team.

All In family: Twin brothers Andrew and Chris, 20; mother Lisa; father Steve.

Role model: Gymnast Shannon Miller

College plans: University of Washington, Southern California

Interests: Cheerleading, wakeboarding, waterskiing, golf, snowskiing.

Career of choice: Nutrition counselor or health sciences.

Favorite subject: Science and math

No. 1 weapons: Focus, drive and coordination

Pre-game ritual : “I like to eat cold pasta.”

Goals: “I would like to go to state again and make finals in diving. To end high school with 15 letters (Four each in diving, gymnastics and tennis, two years in drill and one in cheer.)”

High school highlights: “Making it further than the regular season in all my sports and having a good time.”

Grady Small, Shorecrest

Sports: Football, baseball

Accolades and achievements: Last year was starting fullback and linebacker on first Scots team to win or share a Wesco South league title since 1994. Earned first team all-Wesco South nod as a linebacker and received Wesco South honorable mention recognition as an outfielder in baseball.

All in the family: Brothers Collin 20, Keegan 11; mother Sue; father Bill.

Favorite athlete: LaDainian Tomlinson

College plans: At 5-8, Small is undersized so he’s willing to go anyplace that would take a chance on him. If he gets no offers, he’ll go to Western Washington and try to walk on in football.

Interests: Wakeboarding, snowboarding, basketball.

Career of choice: “Maybe something that involves sports, physical therapy.”

Favorite subject: Science

No. 1 weapon: Intelligence

Pre-game ritual: Hanging out with teammate Kevin Ramos before every game and watching tapes of Walter Payton.

Goal: “We would like to repeat what we did last year, get another Wesco title and go farther in state than we did last year.”

High school highlight: Winning the Wesco South title last year and advancing to state.

Pierce Rankin, Shorecrest

Age: 17

Sports: Baseball, football

Accolades and achievements: Second team All-Wesco South shortstop as a junior and sophomore. Front-runner to start at quarterback for the Scots this season.

All in the family: Siblings Connor 18, Jessica 14, Noah 11; mother Kim; father Bob; Grandfather on mother’s side is Bob Schlorledt, who led Washington to its first Rose Bowl wins in 1960 and 1961 and was named MVP of both games.

Favorite athlete: Cal Ripken, Jr.

College plans: Made verbal commitment to play baseball at the University of Washington.

Interests: Golf, poker.

Career of choice: Pro baseball player or engineer

No. 1 weapon: Savvy, baseball smarts.

Favorite subject: Math

Goal: Play well enough to get drafted and lead to team to state.

High school highlight: Playing at Safeco Field in Mariners Cup series.

Julia DeKoekkoek, volleyball, basketball

Sports: Volleyball, basketball

Age: 16

Accolades and achievements: In basketball, led the Crusaders in scoring with 16.6 points per game as a junior and was named honorable mention all-state for Class B. Also honorable mention all-state in volleyball for Class B as a middle blocker/outside hitter.

All in the family: Siblings Brian, 24; Jennette, 18; Angela, 15; David, 14; Abby, 8; Ava, 2; mother Char; father John.

Favorite athlete: Steve Nash.

College plans: Calvin College in Michigan; Western Washington; “I’m still looking around.”

Fun facts: Likes tennis and plays on Rattlesnakes AAU team coached by KIRO radio talk show host Dori Monson

No. 1 weapon: Ability to drive to the hoop.

Pre-game ritual: Eating any type of candy. “I really like candy.”

Goal: “I’d like to make it to state in volleyball and basketball and place.” Also wants to work on playing point guard, the position she’ll most likely have to play in college.

High school highlight: Making it to state B tournament in basketball last year.

Danielle Clauson, King’s

Sports: basketball track

Age: 17

Accolades and accomplishments: Made 2A all-tournament first team in basketball as a junior and second team as a sophomore. Two-time first team Cascade Conference selection. Placed third in state in javelin as a junior.

All in the family: brother Curtis, 13; mother Norma; father Davin.

Role model: Clutch players coach Jason Fawcett

College plans: “It’s really open right now.” Eastern Washington has offered a full-ride scholarship.

Interests: Cooking and baking; hanging out with friends

Career of choice: Investment advisor and child psychologist.

Favorite subject: Math

No. 1 weapon: Dribbling skills.

Half-time ritual: She eats a couple of Skittles to “re-energize.

I have a Costco box of Skittles in my bag and it goes around.”

Goal: “Have a really close group like we did last year, be a leader as a senior and bring the best out of everyone else.”

High School highlight: Scoring 22 points in state championship game sophomore year. “It was a confidence booster, scoring 22 points with (tournament MVP Sara) Mosiman out of the game because of fouls. It showed what I could do.”

Teddy Wingo, Shorecrest

Sport: Soccer

Age: 17

Accolades and achievements: First team 3A all-state defender as a junior; first team all-Wesco South defender as junior and first team midfielder as sophomore.

All in the family: Brothers Connor 13; Henry 10; mother Erica Waller.

Role model or favorite athlete: Christian Ronaldo, midfielder for Manchester United and Portugal

College plans: Looking at Vermont, Illinois-Chicago and Seattle Pacific

Career of choice: Pro soccer player

Favorite subject: History

No. 1 weapon: Knowledge of the game

Pre-game ritual: Taking a shower and then not putting any soccer stuff on until arriving at the stadium and listening to music.

Goal: Get back to state.

High school highlight: Winning state as a sophomore.

Cora Speidel, Shorecrest

Sports: Soccer, track.

Age: 17

Accolades and achievements: Fifth in long jump at state 3A meet with leap of 16 feet, 2 inches; Wesco South honorable mention recognition as a midfielder in soccer.

Role model: Sister Courtney.

College plans: Considering Western Washington, Eastern Washington, Gonzaga, Washington State.
