MOUNTLAKE TERRACE — The city of Mountlake Terrace is getting ready for several street improvement projects this summer as part of this year’s street maintenance program, city officials announced. About 22 percent of the city’s arterials will be improved by what city officials describe as the most extensive street improvement in the past decade.
The project is funded in part by cardroom taxes and grants from the Federal Highway Administration and Community Transit.
The streets scheduled to receive overlays this summer include 236th Street SW, near the I-5 Park and Ride Lot eastward to 56th Avenue; and along 56th Avenue W., from 244th Street SW to 236th Street SW. In addition to repaving, workers will install corner access ramps, sidewalk and driveway repairs that comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act, as well as water and stormwater system upgrades.
Chip sealing, a process that restores streets at half the cost of new pavement, will be applied to about 3.7 miles of city roads this summer, city officials said. The streets include:
• 66th Avenue W. from 220th Street SW to 232nd Street SW
• 58th Avenue W. from 220th Street SW south to 230th Street SW
• 56th Avenue W. from 220th Street SW south to 228th Street SW
• 52nd Ave. W from 221st Street SW south to 225th Street SW
• 48th Street SW from 221st Street SW to 233rd Street SW.
Depending on weather conditions, the projects will likely start in July and continue throughout the summer and early fall seasons. For information about these projects, visit www.cityofmlt.com/news.htm or call public works director Larry Waters at 425-670-8264, ext. 101.
